About
Hidden Treasures is a no kill Sanctuary and Rescue that also provides low cost spay and neutering of cats.
This last year when we were located in the City of Orland, we spayed and neutered over 900 cats in less than one year! We've moved back to our original ranch location and continue our same mission: To rescue, spay, neuter and chip as many cats as we can in our County, and help support our fellow rescuers in the surrounding areas. We've successfully adopted out over one hundred cats per year since we first began. We currently have over one hundred and fifty cats living the good life at our sanctuary. History While Hidden Treasures Sanctuary and Rescue officially became a 501 3c non-profit organization in just the last two years, we've been saving cats and kittens for much longer. It was 64 years ago when Founder and Director Valerie Johnson rescued her first cat, a large orange-striped tabby. Rescuing critters has since become her lifelong passion. She attended the very first meeting of the Chico Cat Coalition over 20 years ago, formed after many cats were being dumped and abandoned at Bidwell Park. In fact, Valerie's dear friend Jim Nakamura was arrested for feeding the cats in the park. Valerie helped him and their friendship became a strong bond that furthered advocacy for our local cat population. In 2009 there were about twenty cats that wandered in or were abandoned near our sanctuary, and many of the females had kittens. Valerie worked with local vets and PawsThrift in Chico to get them all spayed and neutered, and many were adopted! Since then, we can proudly say we've rescued, spayed and neutered over three hundred cats and kittens and found them beautiful homes. (A few still live a great life to this day here at the sanctuary, safe and happy!) Many of these kittens were born in very bad environments. It is our mission to do everything we can to save them. And while it can sometimes be tragic when we lose one to disease or circumstances, we ask you to join us in this mission. We have several like-minded servants that graciously and passionately help us. Together. we can save more. And that is a beautiful thing. |
